Drew King Broken/Lost/Stolen Cell Phone! What To Do? MEETING DATE: Thursday, August 22, 2024 6:45PM - 8:45PM (Zoom meeting room opens at 6:45 PM; Meeting starts at 7 PM) via Zoom virtual meeting. |
Drew King's cell phone is broken. What is he to do? Drew found himself in a
predicament when his phone accidentally got submerged in his niece's swimming pool.
With his cell phone damaged, he could not access his password manager for strong
passwords or receive two-factor authentication codes.
Drew faced another hurdle: He needed to contact his mobile phone company to arrange
a replacement through his insurance plan. He was at a location where only a Mac
computer was available. Without his phone, he couldn't complete the two-factor
authentication process required by his mobile company or access his email, which also
needed the same security step.
To resolve these challenges, Drew takes us through his steps to fix his problem.
At present, Drew lives in Sarasota FL with his dog Abby, and
owns his own consulting company, "King Consulting". He assists
people with their dysfunctional computers, networks, and
smart homes. He joined the Sarasota Technology Users Group
in 2022 and joined the board of directors in 2023. Drew is also
the STUG webmaster. Drew has also served on the board of
directors of the Boston Network Users Group for the past 30+
years.
Drew graduated from high school in Chestnut Hill, MA where is
earned honors in photography, played varsity tennis, and began
his career in computers in his high school computer club where
he contributed to the assembly of a small computer from a
company named Sinclair.
Drew continued his education at Alfred University in New York,
earning a bachelor's degree in computer science.
While attending Alfred University, Drew joined the Zeta Beta
Tau fraternity where he served as Treasurer in his senior year.
Many of Drew's friends today are those he made while at ZBT.
Drew's first job after graduating in 1988 was at a small
computer company where he learned how to build and repair
computers, and local area networks from a company called
Novell. He also taught computer classes.
He then went on to work for Wang Laboratories in 1991, where
he spent nearly 10 years of his career. Part of Wang later
became Eastman Software, a part of Kodak. Drew worked his
way up to Manager of Network Services for Eastman Software
world-wide. This is where he learned to be a Microsoft
Exchange administrator.
In 2001, Drew became the Sr. Exchange Administrator for a
global startup company called Vignette Software. Then, in 2002
the "Internet Bubble" began to burst, leading Drew to start his
own company, "King Consulting" in 2003.
Drew became a reseller, trainer, and supporter of Dragon
Naturally Speaking voice recognition software for doctors, and
the severely disabled. He also taught a quadriplegic to
communicate via computer while on a ventilator.
