Ron Brown Cost-Effective Chromebook Plus with New Features MEETING DATE: Thursday, February 27, 2025 6:45PM - 8:45PM (Zoom meeting room opens at 6:45 PM; Meeting starts at 7 PM) via Zoom virtual meeting. |
Chromebooks have evolved in many positive ways since they were first introduced in 2011. They have gotten more powerful but have not become as much more expensive as Windows computers have. And though they are vulnerable to malware, they are completely immune to viruses. Chromebook updates are transparent and not as annoying as Windows updates can be. Many people are faced with choices of how to deal with the End of Life (and end of support) of Windows 10. The choices include a possibly very expensive Windows 11 computer, or converting to and learning Linux, a more expensive Apple mac, a limited tablet such as an iPad, or risking the assured attacks on the now-vulnerable Windows 10. There is another choice: the new Chromebook Plus. This presentation will review the features of the latest Chromebooks, including the upgrade to the Chromebook Plus. Ron will look at the choices one has on the market. He'll also look at some tips, tricks, add-ons that let a Chromebook do things which you might not have been aware of.
I would like to be known as a retired technologist. My career started as a Flight Surgeon after having graduated in Medicine at the University of Alberta in 1976. In 1981 we settled in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island and I left the military to start a Family Practice. PC’s were just being produced and Microsoft Windows was going to integrate everything. I wanted an electronic office and bought interest in a start-up software company in Calgary that made an Electronic Patient Records. As my Family Practice grew so did our software company. Over the next 20 years it grew into an International Company and had me traveling across Canada and the US giving papers at many conferences. The topics ranged from patient management, Lab integration, security, and data input. At 55 our two children were well on their way in their own careers and my wife really wanted to get to know me. I retired and sold my medical practice and other business interests. Retirement has many rewards and one of them is being able to produce the "Tech for Senior" project. We have two shows a week, 500 on-line videos, and a Podcast. This project is growing exponentially and I now have another full time job without pay !!! I work with the greatest people in the world and am having so much fun. Details can be found at https://www.techforsenior.com .
