Description

Bluetooth has recently had breakthrough advances with the introduction of Bluetooth version 5. The creation of the new features has been over 15 years in development by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). Bluetooth was first introduced in 1999 and we have been using Bluetooth for connecting mice, speakers, printers and more to our computers, phones and other devices. This latest version will have a major impact in our lives as it roles out beyond personal computers to other devices in our lives.
This presentation reviews the sequence of versions of Bluetooth, the features of Bluetooth 5 Low Energy (LE), and takes note of which devices are supported. Hearing aids supporting Bluetooth 5 LE will have new capability. Auracast is supported in Bluetooth 5 LE and will be used to send audio to audiences large and small. The Low Energy feature will impact Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
